Welcome to the 2010 – 2011 Little Athletics season at Thornton and on behalf of the centre I wish you an enjoyable and successful year. Presidents Report 2009-2010Hello Parents and Athletes Well, another year over, gee how time flies. 2009/2010 was a very good year for Thornton L/A’s. Registrations were up well above last year, and competition again was very tough in all age groups. Our qualifiers to regional at Tamworth were fantastic with 26 Atheletes competing, among them were a lot of younger athletes in U/8 and U/9 performing well. Qualifiers to state increased greatly with Harry Schiemer winning silver in the 60/HURDLES and just missing the 70 metres sprint final. Lily Cains ran a PB of 30.46 to just miss the 200 m final. Maddison Nowland had her first taste of state competition in shot put and discus; she will be there again next year. Dylan Bennett - what can I say about this young fella - gold in longjump, silver in 100m, bronze in the 200m. Dylan was selected in the NSW State Team to compete in Brisbane in the end of April; he is a real talent and a fine youngster to go with it. Emily Coppins is just starting to believe in herself and is showing opposition what is in store for them, winning silver in the 400m to go with a bronze from last year. Emily is also an exceptional athlete who has been selected into the Academy Of Sport for athletics. This year was made a lot easier for me with the help of Derek Nowland, Geoff Cains, Brendon Vardy, Huon Sorensen in setting up and packing away on comp nights. Many thanks gentlemen. I cannot thank Kath Nowland and Donna Cains enough for their tireless work all year. Belinda Vardy and Tanya Sorensen topped off our list of hard working committee. Now 2 people were also quite busy all year - Kim Pryor was brilliant in keeping everything and me organised all year thanks Kim. Last but by no means least Henry Coppins - over the course of 10 YEARS or more Henry has been President, Secretary, Treasurer, Championships Officer, top BBQ cook, you name it Henry has done it. He has put a lot of time, effort and energy into Thornton L/A’s. On behalf of the club I would like to thank Henry and not to forget Jullie for all their hard work over a long period of time, again many thanks. Here’s hoping 2010/2011 can be as good. TERRY MATTHEWS, PRESIDENT Thornton Little Athletics Club Inc |
